PLASENCIA YEAR OF THE SNAKE 2025
Eight long, thin cigars and a culebra. It’s a veritable viper den of smokes and that’s how Plasencia Cigars is acknowledging Plasencia Year of the Snake 2025 Chinese Lunar New Year. The idea is quite clever when you consider that the word culebra translates to “snake” in Spanish. In cigar terms, a culebra typically is made from three thin cigars intertwined like serpents tied together by string or ribbon. Plasencia’s El Año de la Culebra Edición Limitada 2025 is a somewhat non-traditional take on the culebra, a 10-count box that contains eight traditionally shaped smokes and a culebra of two twisted together. Each of the cigars, twisted or not, measure 7 inches by 40 ring gauge. Plasencia refers to these as lanceros, but they are made without the pigtail cap found on typical lanceros. (Cigar Aficionado would classify the shape as a panetela.) All the tobacco is grown by the Plasencia family in Nicaragua and the cigars are made at the Plasencia factory in Estelí. Only 6,000 boxes are being produced with half of them allocated for the U.S. market.
