L’ATELIER CÔTE D’OR ’19
Each is a limited edition cigar and comes from the L’Atelier side of the company’s portfolio. The L’Atelier Côte d’Or ’19 is a 6 x 50 toro that uses the same blend as previous Côte d’Or releases. The wrapper is the same Ecuadorian Sancti Spiritus varietal that is used on the L’Atelier Selection Spéciale, but arguably the star of the show is underneath. This release uses pelo de oro tobacco grown by the García family in Nicaragua. Pelo de oro, Spanish for golden hair, is a tobacco noted for its golden color but perhaps is more famous for being banned in Cuba due to its propensity to develop mold. While it’s no longer grown in Cuba, a variety of growers have planted it around the world and the García family is perhaps the most known producer of it in Nicaragua though it’s still quite limited.
Each L’Atelier Côte d’Or ’19 has a production limited to 1,500 boxes of 10 cigars.
This is the third Côte d’Or release—following the ’15 (7 x 47) and ’17 (7 x 47)—though there was also the Côte d’Or La Tâche, which used a much lighter wrapper. The company says it opted to use the ’19 name because it was the next cigar in the naming convention, not because the cigar has any roots in 2019.
